Zeus, a two-year-old German Shepherd and Labrador mix, broke the hearts of people when his story made the rounds on social media last week after he was found tied to a tree in the woods on February 10.

Next to Zeus was a bag of dog food and a handwritten goodbye note that told the sad story of an owner who could no longer care for him.

‘I am a very good dog. My owner just can’t afford me anymore. She tried to find me a home but nobody would take me.’

Animal services officers rescued Zeus and he was taken to the Prince George County Animal Shelter.  In a Facebook post he was described as “house trained, knows sit and shake, and is an excellent fetch player. He has been wonderful with other dogs, cats, and people. We have seen no behavioral issues in Zeus.”

Zeus  found his new family on February 13, which is the first day he became available for adoption. The shelter posted the good news

“Zeus has found his fairy tale home at last. Zeus’ new family are wonderful pet owners who will give Zeus the kind of home that loves him for life this time. Thank you so much to Zeus’ new family for giving him a wonderful home!”

Katherine McFarland Elliott and her three children fell in love with Zeus at first sight and became instant friends.

Thanks go out to all involved in finding sweet Zeus a forever home. The shelter would like to remind people to contact their local shelter if help is needed in caring for a pet. Many programs are available to help those going through a rough patch in life.
